It was a big change for me to train obedience with a cattledog after having airedaleterriers for 30 years. Boy, how fast it went! It is very easy that right becomes wrong before you have time to think about it. But it is a lot of fun!
Baily
When Baily was two years old we changed approach and started clickertraining. We did so after attending a clicker course for a wonderful instructor, Anders Kjernholm. Since then we take private classes for Anders and we have also attended a CANIS-camp.
I find it very stimulating to train this way and the response from the dog is remarkable. Baily loves it and the commitment, attitude and concentration has improved amazingly. The expectations from Baily on the obedience training makes it loads of fun!
We have competed a little in obedience, unfortunately before we were ready, with mixed results. Right now we are working at training in competitionlike environment
and endurance
.
We have chosen not to compete in obedience lately but are thinking of it again since it is so hard to get a spot in tracking.
Demi
It is loads of fun to start training a puppy from the beginning with operant learning. The plan in to shape behaviours in everyday life when Demi spontaneously does things. When we train we focus on exercises when she has to figre out by herself what to do. The focus is commitment, attitude and contact. It is going to be fun to see where it takes us. We have also started with the basics, sitt, down, come here, stay and the box.
